SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER

CLASSS ARE HELD WEDNESDAY NIGHTS SEPT 4TH - OCT 23Rd

 

BEGINNER : 6:00 - 7:15 100$

In this class we learn the complete foundation movements of Belly Dance. Andrea draws from her training in Tribal Fusion, Classic Oriental, Egyptian technique, Suhalia Salimpour format, and folklore to bring you a very complete understanding of oriental dance.

Each class begins with the same warm-up which includes all of the foundation movements learned during the session. This method as proven to help students master all of the movements by the end of the session. A simple choreography will also be taught and performed in the student show.

 

INTERMEDIATE: 7:15 - 8:30 100$

- in this class we take all of the movements learned in the beginner classes and learn to move freely onstage with this technique. We learn traveling steps, spins, stage patterns and formation.

We also learn to deepen movements, to give them life and texture. In the beginner session movements are at their basic form, in the intermediate level we take the same movements and add steps, accents, movement quality, transitions and angles. No longer is a hip drop just a hip drop, it now has at least three variation with three different feelings.

We will also be learning a simple choreography to perform in the student show.

 

RESTAURANT TRAINING: 8:30 - 9:45 120$

This advanced class is geared specifically to students who want to learn to perform in restaurants. Take you dance training to a new level and learn to become a professional dancer. Andrea has 7 years of experience in restaurants, she has made many mistakes, and had many successes. Andrea shares this experience with you in a practical manner. Students will learn the basics of auditions, price standards, how to make a set list, how to adapt your night to your clients and their origin or mood, costuming make-up and hair, props, choreography vs improvisation, how to excite a crowd, how to make them dance, animation tricks and techniques.

As part of the session, students will have an opportunity to watch Andrea perform in Mint and Couscous, and or the restaurant Feyrouz, both downtown Montreal. They will then have the opportunity to perform themselves in one of the two restaurants. Each place offers a different experience. Mint and couscous is much smaller with a primarily Quebecois audience. Feyrouz is much larger with a mixed clientele consisting of Quebecois, Tunisians, Moroccans, Lebanese and Iraqi. Learn how to identify the different groups and know what dances to perform to please your audience.

Choreography's will be taught, students are expected to learn them, but also be comfortable using them as only structured improvisation. There is a huge improvisation component to the class, so get ready to let yourself go and throw off all your inhibitions!.
